OPEN CALL for PERFORMERS – RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS

Choreography as a visual art method

I am investigating how artists apply choreographic strategies in installation and site-specific work. The project considers translating choreography as a method to the visual arts, examining this in relation to sculpture, performance, and site-specificity.

I am now looking for performers to take part in an installation/performance/video research experiment in public locations in the city of Glasgow using choreographic approaches and mostly pedestrian movements. We will meet for an introductory briefing on the 18th March, and we will have four 2h sessions during the weeks of 4th to 15th of April (9h in total). The research materials collected will be used to make installation/performance works, and to analyse the relationships between choreography and installation.

Participants will gain experience working with a professional artist, gaining an insight in installation, site-specific work, and visual spatial practices, exploring interdisciplinary approaches to performance making. They will also bring their voice to the development of a research project. Participants will be invited to exhibitions and outcomes of the research, and receive a shopping voucher as a thank you.

To take part, please email a short CV or bio, no longer than one page, to i.fragao1@student.gsa.ac.uk.

Eligibility criteria: please note you must be between 18-50, have a minimum of three months performance training, and a good command of spoken English to participate.

Further information about the study can be found here (PDF). If you are interested or have any questions, please contact me at i.fragao1@student.gsa.ac.uk

Suggested courses:

Gestão de Carreira Criativa looks a how artists, designers and creative people can plan, promote, and successfully construct their professional careers.

The course "Do espaço à instalação" focus on the development of a personal installation project which is accompanied by key theory on the subject.

I also recommend checking out the course "Coming out: do impulso à performance", which is looking really good! Pedro and Gens are great to work with.
